Sixth Form Students Attend Holocaust Memorial Day Conference at Exeter University

Thirteen of our Year 12 students were selected to represent our school at the Holocaust Memorial Day Conference at Exeter University, joining students from three other schools.

During the event, the students had the privilege of listening to a powerful speech from Rosemary Schonfeld, a second-generation Holocaust survivor. Rosemary shared the moving story of her Aunt Relly, who survived both the Holocaust and the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia. Her speech offered a deeply personal perspective on history, illustrating the lasting impact these events have had on her family.

Following Rosemary's speech, the students attended a lecture exploring the portrayal of the Holocaust in art and cinema. This session provided valuable insight into how different mediums reflect the history and the lasting impact of the Holocaust.

Additionally, the students had the opportunity to hear from experts in the field, who discussed how the Holocaust is studied today and examined the experiences of survivors. This rare and meaningful opportunity allowed our students to deepen their understanding of the subject and immerse themselves into the history they are studying.
