Sports Therapy in Action: BTEC Students Gain Hands-On Experience at City College
Our double Level 3 BTEC Sport students had the exciting opportunity to visit City College and gain hands-on experience in the field of sports therapy. During the visit, they learnt about the five key stages of the rehabilitation process, exploring various techniques used to help injured athletes regain match fitness. The students participated in activities such as on-field assessments, shockwave therapy, bandaging, and a range of movement exercises.
After covering the basics of rehabilitation, the group moved into the strength and conditioning suite. Here, they tried two advanced assessments designed to monitor an athlete’s recovery progress and facilitate sport-specific rehabilitation: a force plate jump test and a reaction time test. Both assessments were conducted under fatigue to replicate the physical demands athletes encounter during recovery.
This experience will prove invaluable as the students begin developing their own rehabilitation programs, applying their newfound practical knowledge to their coursework.
Year 13 student Holly, even shared her aspirations to pursue a career in sports therapy, revealing that she plans to apply to university to further her studies in this field. This experience has provided a strong foundation for her future career goals.
