Excitement Grows with the Appointment of our New campus Poetry Champion
Excitement is in the air as Sophie has been named our new campus Poetry Champion, a role dedicated to supporting and mentoring the Poet Laureates throughout the coming year.
The announcement followed an exciting poetry competition held in honour of National Poetry Day, which encouraged students from all year groups to showcase their unique and imaginative works. This event not only celebrated the rich diversity of talent within our school community but also sparked a wave of enthusiasm amongst students eager to express their creativity.
The decision to appoint a Poetry Champion reflects the school’s commitment to fostering a vibrant literary community. As one of our former Poet Laureates, Sophie will collaborate closely with the new Poet Laureates, offering guidance, support, and mentorship as they begin their poetic journeys. This collaborative effort aims to inspire students to further explore the power of poetry and self-expression.
Reflecting on her new role, Sophie expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I am very excited to take on my new role as Poetry Champion. I look forward to helping the new Poet Laureates of Stoke and Scott and offering them guidance where I can. I have no doubt I will enjoy my new mentoring role. "
Congratulations to Sophie on this outstanding achievement! We look forward to the wonderful contributions she will make as Poetry Champion throughout the upcoming year.
Sophie's Poem:
Counting
I count the stars across the night
A thousand hopes and dreams take flight
Each breath, each moment slipping by
As the clouds drift through the sky
I count the raindrops on the glass;
Reminders of how time will pass
Questions amass day by day
What should I think? What should I say?
I count the laughter and the tears,
A melody that sings in my ears.
Every note, a symphony of joy and sorrow
That paints a picture of tomorrow
I count the footprints in the sand,
Markers of a promised land
A time when everything was new
The past that shapes both me and you
I count the tides that lap the sea
A harmony of nature, wild and free
Each wave a heartbeat gentle yet strong
A lullaby that guides us to where we belong
