Students Shine at Swindon's Institute of Technology with Innovative 'STEAMers' App
Winners!
Huge congratulations to our 14 STEAM students for presenting their 'STEAMers' app at Swindon's Institute of Technology during the DiversITy program. They showcased their app to a panel of three judges from the technology industry, winning the “Innovative Prototype Achievement” award and earning £300 for STEAM. They also secured joint 2nd place overall.
The judges were impressed by the team's diversity and the specific roles each member played. They were particularly amazed that the students had developed a functional app designed to help the elderly become more comfortable with technology. By simply scanning a QR code, users can access the app and begin learning how to use various tech tools.
The app can be accessed through the following link.
Following their 25-minute presentation, the students were given a tour of the impressive facility. The six-story building features cybersecurity labs, E-Sports rooms, media suites, recording studios, and engineering workshops, with equipment worth approximately £3 million!
Dylan shared, "I really enjoyed the experience of travelling to Swindon to visit a technology institute and participating the whole day. It was amazing, and I now definitely want to pursue a career in technology one day!" Morgan added, "The institute is incredible. Seeing all the advanced technology and cool gadgets was truly eye-opening!" Henry remarked, "Why can’t we have some of this cool technology at our school?"
The team also had the chance to interact with students from Gloucester Academy, asking questions like, "What was your project about and how does it work?" and "How did your presentation go?"
Jeremy Blain, Co-Founder and Senior Partner of DiversITy, expressed, "It was fantastic to host your talented students, and we are so pleased they got so much out of it." He commended the students as a credit to themselves and to the school. CEO and Founder Anna Somaiya also plans to coach the team on their presentation, believing we could achieve first place next year.
We are looking forward to seeing what our results are!
