Students Shine at Swindon's Institute of Technology with Innovative 'STEAMers' App

Yesterday, 14 students from Stoke Damerel Community College had the fantastic opportunity to present their work from the DiversITy program at Swindon's Institute of Technology.

Our students showcased their 'STEAMers' app to three judges from the technology industry. The judges were impressed by the team's diversity and the specific roles each member played. They were particularly amazed that the students had developed a functional app designed to help the elderly become more comfortable with technology. By simply scanning a QR code, users can access the app and begin learning how to use various tech tools.

The app can be accessed through the following link

Following their 25-minute presentation, the students were given a tour of the impressive facility. The six-story building features cybersecurity labs, E-Sports rooms, media suites, recording studios, and engineering workshops, with equipment worth approximately £3 million!

Dylan shared, "I really enjoyed the experience of travelling to Swindon to visit a technology institute and participating the whole day. It was amazing, and I now definitely want to pursue a career in technology one day!" Morgan added, "The institute is incredible. Seeing all the advanced technology and cool gadgets was truly eye-opening!" Henry remarked, "Why can’t we have some of this cool technology at our school?"

The team also had the chance to interact with students from Gloucester Academy, asking questions like, "What was your project about and how does it work?" and "How did your presentation go?"

Jeremy Blain, Co-Founder and Senior Partner of DiversITy, said, "It was fantastic to host your talented students, and we are so pleased they got so much out of it." The students were a credit to themselves and to the school.”

We are looking forward to seeing what our results are!
