Year 10 Students Cook Up a Storm with the Royal Navy Chefs
Our Year 10 students recently participated in an exciting cooking workshop hosted by the Royal Navy Catering Team. In this interactive, Master Chef-style lesson, the class was divided into teams, each tasked with creating two dishes: meatballs with spaghetti and garlic bread, and sticky toffee pudding.
The students faced a 90-minute challenge to prepare a main course and a dessert, with recipe sheets and guidance from the Royal Navy chefs. This challenge not only tested their cooking skills but also enhanced their teamwork, communication, and time management skills. They also followed a 'clean as you go' policy, keeping the classroom safe and tidy, mirroring a working kitchen.
At the end of the challenge, the teams presented their dishes, focusing on both taste and presentation. The Royal Navy chefs tasted and critiqued each creation, and the best group won a medal.
Beyond the cooking challenge, the Royal Navy team shared insights into the Catering Service Branch, including career opportunities, service life, educational benefits, and the various sporting and social activities available to Royal Navy personnel.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the session, appreciating the realistic time pressure and the opportunity to see how their lessons apply to real-world scenarios.
We look forward to hosting the Royal Navy again for more engaging workshops.
Congratulations to our winners: Aimerance L, Jasmine w, Alessandro A, Codi-Jack S, Keisha R, Emily L, Gracie S and Amy K
