Students Dive into Robotics with Howmet Ambassadors
Recently, Year 8 students had the chance to work with Howmet Ambassadors, to explore how Howmet used robots in their factory in Exeter to help make parts for the aerospace industry.
The students broke into groups and were given the challenge of making their own robot, costing up all the parts, researching any current competitors and how they would make this a viable product. Students had the chance to play the role of a Project Manager, Marketing Director, Design Engineer, Researcher and Financial Director.
Once they had finished with their design, the students first presented their design in front of their own tutor groups, where a winner was selected by a Howmett ambassador. The four winners then presented in the main hall where a final winner was selected from the Howmet judging panel.
Students shared their thoughts on the challenge. Alfie stated: "Wow, I've never been a Project Manager before, It was really fun!
Lewis said, “I never knew there were so many robots being used by big companies, like the one we designed today."
Lexi said, "I was so scared to present my ideas, but I'm glad I did it. I really enjoyed the experience."
