Silver DofE Expedition

Our amazing Silver DofE students embarked on a challenging 3-day practice expedition over the weekend.

Starting at the Ivybridge Tennis Club, the journey took them through the picturesque Long Timber Woods and up to Harford. From there, they navigated across the open moorland towards South Brent, where they set up camp for the first night.

After pitching their tents, the pupils demonstrated their culinary skills by preparing a variety of nutritious meals, from home-made flatbreads to rice with chorizo. This hearty dinner was the perfect fuel for the adventures ahead.

Waking to glorious sunshine, the second day of their journey began. The group trekked up to Shipley Bridge and back onto the moors near the Avon Dam. The route presented some tricky navigational challenges, but the pupils confidently applied their training and successfully navigated the terrain. They ended the day at Scorriton, camping in a field on the edge of Dartmoor.

Despite fatigue, the final day saw the pupils in high spirits as they tackled the last leg of their journey. They hiked along the Two Moors Way and descended to Dartmeet, facing some tough climbs but ultimately enjoying the downhill stretch to the finish.

Throughout the expedition, the pupils showed remarkable resilience and teamwork, learning valuable skills and building confidence in preparation for their qualifying expedition in June. Their determination and positive attitude made the experience a memorable success, earning them well-deserved pride and recognition.
