Students explore Career Opportunities in Hospitality

We had the pleasure of hosting Stacey Le Gallez, Group HR Manager at Philema Hospitality Management, who shed light on the diverse career pathways within the hospitality sector.

Stacey emphasised the importance of not overlooking the hospitality sector, highlighting the abundant opportunities available within esteemed organisations like the one she works for. She emphasised the significance of choosing the right company who grow and develop their staff.  Stacey highlighted the industry's capacity to impart invaluable transferable skills, making it an attractive option for professional growth and development.

Stacey shared her personal journey, initially joining the company in a front-of-house capacity. Over time, she transitioned into HR, supported by the company's investment in her professional development, including AAT Level 2 accountancy training and later achieving a CIPD level 5 qualification.

Stacey spoke to the group of Year 12 Sixth Form students about the hospitality sector and the company she works for, Philema Hospitality Management.

Philema Hospitality Management, deeply rooted in the picturesque landscapes of the South West of England, curates a collection of leisure properties across the hospitality spectrum. Each property, whether it's the luxurious Boringdon Hall Hotel nestled in Devon with its prestigious Michelin-starred restaurant and serene Gaia Spa, or the vibrant Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa in Newquay, exudes a commitment to surpassing guest expectations.

Central to Philema's ethos is nurturing talent from within the organisation. Another staff member, Laura Cameron, now the Managing Director, exemplifies this philosophy, having begun her journey as a receptionist. Her ascent within the company underscores Philema's dedication to fostering internal growth and excellence.

All employees receive compensation above the minimum wage, coupled with bonuses and enticing incentives. Staff perks extend to access to the spa and gym facilities, enhancing their overall well-being. Special occasions, like 'National Cream Tea Day,' are celebrated, with every staff member treated to the quintessential scone, jam, and cream indulgence.

In an effort to engage with future talent, Philema welcomes initiatives like career exploration days. Sarah Trezona, a careers adviser, recently spent a day immersing herself in the operations of Boringdon Hall Hotel. From kitchen experiences to management meetings and interactions with spa and events managers, such engagements aim to bridge the gap between education and industry realities.

In a region where the visitor economy thrives, with an average employment rate of 12%, Philema's commitment to talent development and industry engagement stands as a beacon, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable future for hospitality professionals.
