SEEDS FOR SCHOOLS
We are pleased to be involved with the Seeds for Schools project - a scheme that will equip all schools across the city, including SDCC, with enough Free native wildflower seed packets for every pupil (that’s approximately 36,000).
We hope to have as many students involved in this as possible - watch this space for updates!
What is Pollenize?
Pollenize is a local pollinator conservation group that brings together the power of science and community to fight against pollinator decline. Their mission is to promote and protect all pollinator species by bridging the gap between people and science to provide tangible solutions for our climate emergency. Pollenize’s work involves extracting data from beehives for the good of the natural environment whilst coordinating community beekeeping, citizen science and rewilding schemes.
What is the Seeds For Schools Project?
Pollenize CIC successfully raised over £75, 000 for their Seeds For Schools Project (S4S). A scheme that will equip every school child in Plymouth with a FREE packet of their wildflower seeds (That's approximately 36,000 eco-heroes). In April, Pollenize will be delivering the seed packets along with other free educational resources to all 82 schools across the city. To celebrate 22nd April 2022 (World Earth Day), they are launching the city’s first ever mass sowing event.
The aim of this project is to engage the younger generation in pollinator conservation and increase forage and habitats for all pollinators! Children will be able to log their sowing coordinates onto an interactive rewilding map on the Pollenize website, which will contribute to important citizen science research.
Pollenize is working with a wide range of local organisations including the Real Ideas Organisation and the Box Museum and the Plymouth National Grid to maximise the impact of this unique city-wide campaign to #pollenizeplymouth and boost biodiversity in the city!
