Ricky wins election to Plymouth Youth Parliament
6 March 2020
The College is proud to report that our double award-winning Year 8 student Ricky Blight has been elected as a member of Plymouth Youth Parliament.
Ricky gained the support of his peers in the recent elections, following his work as a non-elected member of the Youth Parliament.
Last October, Ricky was presented with the Police Superintendent’s Certificate for Selflessness by Chief Supt David Thorne at the Plymouth Police Commander’s Awards Ceremony at the Guildhall. The award was for his work in carrying out a knife crime survey with fellow members of Plymouth Youth Parliament. The findings are so informative that the survey is now being discussed by police nationally.
In January, Ricky collected a second award, from the British Youth Council (BYC). The BYC presented him with the Personal Development Award for the whole of the South West region, in recognition of his contribution as a member of Plymouth Youth Parliament.
As a result of being elected, Ricky receives £250 to spend on his knife crime and community safety campaign.
