The hard work of our students at Stoke Damerel Community College has been celebrated on A level and BTEC results day.

Staff and students gathered at the College on Thursday morning to open their brown envelopes and Head of Sixth Form Mr Tinkler said he was “extremely proud” of the students’ achievements.

“It’s been brilliant to see so many happy faces and tears of joy and see what our students have achieved after all their hard work.”

Students are taking up places at universities across the country including Exeter, Birmingham, Falmouth, Loughborough and Plymouth.

Year 13 Roma said she was “overwhelmed” with her results – including a Distinction * in Business -which mean she is off to take up a place at Exeter to study Accountancy and Business after a year out.

“I’m just so happy – I had times when I doubted myself but Mrs Sinclair was so supportive to me and kept reassuring me that I could do it.”

Fellow student Jess is going to be taking up a place at Birmingham to study Criminology and was especially pleased with her A* in her EPQ which looked at whether the UK’s prison system offers effective opportunities to rehabilitate.

“I am so excited and really pleased,” said Jess, who is also going to take a year out before commencing her studies.

Paige will be going to Plymouth to do Psychology and Criminology after gaining a Double Distinction* and a Distinction.

“I worked hard so I am obviously pleased that I am going to be able to do what I want to next.”

Kieran will be going to Loughborough after achieving a Double Distinction* in Sport and Stan will be heading to Falmouth to study Media after his achievements in Photography, Computer Science and IT.

Executive Principal Miss Frier said: “Our results days really are a highlight of our year and it’s lovely to see staff, students and their families came to the College today to share in everyone’s success.”
