Stoke Damerel Young Carers Group helped the Young Carers Festival celebrate its 18th event with a weekend trip to Southampton.

The festival is an exclusive event for young people with a caring responsibility at home.

Run in partnership with The Children’s Society, YCF was created in 2000 to give young carers the chance to have fun away from their caring role, raise awareness of this often hidden group of young people and allow young carers to share experiences with others in a similar situation.

"The festival was attended by over 1,500 young carers from across the country," said Ms Blackmore, the College's Young Carers' Champion.

"The festival is an opportunity for young carers to come together, share their experiences of being a young carer and have their voices heard.

"Students took part in a wide range of activities throughout the weekend including paddle boarding, climbing, abseiling, birdhouse making, cake decorating, apple juice pressing and visiting a planetarium to mention just a few.

"Students thoroughly enjoyed themselves over the weekend, some of whom were experiencing camping for the first time."
