A group of Year 9 students have been getting to grips with tennis as part of a six-week programme thanks to Tennis Plymouth.

John and Glenn Richards have been coming to the College every Thursday to teach the GCSE PE group youngsters

"The students have been great," said John, who also runs free sessions at Devonport Park on a Saturday.

"They have shown great enthusiasm and taken to it really well, I've been really impressed with them."

PE teacher Miss Le Page, who joins the students on court at each session, said the lessons were " a great opportunity".

"We don't always focus on tennis so this gives students a chance to try something new.

"They have taken to it so well and I've seen a real improvement every week.

"We are very grateful to John and Glenn for providing such enjoyable sessions."

Student Johnny, who hadn't played tennis before said he will "definitely" keep playing.

"Once you start you want to keep playing," he said. "It's really good fun."
