Year 13 A level English students got the chance to pick the brains of the city's Shakespeare experts at a special Q and A session.

Members of Plymouth Shakespeare Society - which has been in existence for more than 100 years - spent two hours answering questions from College students at the end of March.

The students quizzed them on Othello - their exam text.

"Society members offered many insights into the texts and challenged students on their knowledge of thematics, alternative interpretations and wider critical appraisal," said Mrs Hardie, English Curriculum Manager.

"It was inspiring to witness first-hand a love of Shakespeare and literature spanning and uniting generations and we are hoping to continue to build links by extending the project to other year groups."

Year 13 student Robbie said the session had been "extremely beneficial to my learning".

"The afternoon gave me a real communal sense of purpose in terms of keeping Shakespeare's work alive and thriving - particularly for young people," said Robbie.

"Overall I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with people who are masters in Shakespeare's work and absorbing their knowledge is really helping me with my A level studies."
