The theme of Holocaust Memorial day 2018 was the Power of Words and the College marked the occasion in a number of ways.

All the College faculties were invited to produce student work which was displayed on The Street in the run up to HMD which this year fell on 27 January 2018.

"We had wonderful work submitted by students included creative writing from English, translation of powerful words from Languages, poems and facts fromHistory and mapping of genocides from our geographers,” said Miss Hill, Ebacc curriculum assistant, who co- ordinates HMD in the College.

“We also displayed posters from the HMD Trust and photos of the Year 12 visit to Auschwitz as part of the Holocaust Education Trust  ambassador programme last March.”

Local MP Luke Pollard also recorded a special video message which was played to students in their tutor time and he will be coming to the College to plant a tree with students next month to commemorate HMD.

Students from all year groups came and viewed the displays and many of them left thoughtful messages on a graffiti white wall.

“Each morning last week learning managers read a poem about the holocaust to their year groups and Emilia, Chloe Connor and Korben, Year 8 History students, also wrote a postcard to Renie Inow a Holocaust survivor and Kindertransportee,” said Miss Hill.

“It was sent to the HMD Trust to be displayed with 35,000 other postcards.”
