A group of Outdoor Education students were put through their paces when the Coldstream Guards' Visibility Team spent the day at the College.

The team held special talks for groups of students about life in the army before setting up a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for students to try.

"We are very grateful to the team for coming all this way to see our students," said Outdoor Education teacher Mr Hatcliffe.

"It has been a very valuable exercise for the students, they have learnt a lot about life in the forces as well as enjoying the activities which were set up for them."

Sergeant Lee Markl said the students had been "very enthusiastic".

"They threw themselves into all the challenges and asked some good questions," he said.

"They've seen what they can achieve when they challenge themselves and when they work as a team as well as finding out more about the qualifications and opportunities life in the army offers.

"They put in a lot of hard work, showed a good sense of humour and were very enthusiastic - they were really good to work with."

"I've been thinking about joining the forces so I found the day very interesting."

Fellow Year 10 student Rosie agreed.

"It was good fun and I'd recommend a day like this to people whether they are thinking of joining the forces or not."
