A group of Year 9 Creative Industries students took a tasty approach to their homework when they baked cakes for an art project.

The GCSE Art students were set a challenge to make a sculpture at home on the theme of Dia de los Muertos - Day of the Dead - a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico with its distinctive and colourful artistic tradition.

"I had two students bring in cakes they made," said Textiles teacher Mrs Moorcroft.

"They were so amazing that lots of other members of staff came to have a look at them too.

"The class are working really well and this piece of work was aimed at inspiring them to be more experimental and have fun at the same time.

"They certainly rose to the challenge - as well as the cakes students made bread and painted canvases - it was a very exciting afternoon in Art 1!"
